Using KIEV-16U Lenses on BMPCC | Indepth Overview

Using KIEV-16U Lenses on BMPCC | Indepth Overview

…erformance seems to be very close. Even other Russian lenses like Helios 44-2 or MIR-1 are likely to have a completely different performance/look. What I mean by all this is that if you get one of these, buying the other 2 makes a perfect sense. Luckily, most of them are sold as sets anyway (at the time of writing all sets are sold together with the Kiev-16U cameras). No one really uses these Kieve-16U cameras any more, so when buying these togeth… Continue Reading

Vivitar Series-1 70-210mm F2.8-4.0 REVIEW

Vivitar Series-1 70-210mm F2.8-4.0 Review

…as nice and grippy as on the older versions. 4th version of Vivitar Series-1 70-210mm F2.8-4.0 Sharpness: So as you can see these lenses are quite different and most importantly they appear to have slightly different optics designs too, which makes this review even more complicated. The first 3 versions are generally considered to be the best, so if you find one with a serial number starting with 22, 28 or 37, then you are in luck. Expect a super… Continue Reading

Battle of Tokina 80-200 Zooms | F2.8 vs F4

Battle of Tokina 80-200 Zooms | F2.8 vs F4

completely different in every other way, including the price. The Tokina AT-X 80-200mm f/2.8 is already mega cheap for what it gives you, but the Tokina 80-200mm RMC f/4 is basically one of the cheapest lenses one could get. If you are lucky you could even snap one up for under $20, which is absolutely crazy for such zoom range at constant aperture of f/4. I’ve tested the Tokina AT-X 80-200mm f/2.8 some time ago and it’s currently one of my favori… Continue Reading

HELIOS 135mm F/2.8 TEST VIDEO

Helios 135mm Test Video

…hich is not a bad thing, but those of you expecting the dreamy character found in Helios 44-2 and other Russian lenses will not find the same magic here. Again, this doesn’t mean this is a bad lens, in fact it’s more suitable for many projects because it matches modern lenses much better and its character is more suitable for general shooting. EDIT: I’ve made a silly mistake my holding the focusing ring and rotating the lens, which made me think t… Continue Reading

Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm F1.8 “Zebra” | REVIEW

…y it in M42 to spare yourself any compatibility/ adapter headache. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9wYSDTTzi4 IMAGE QUALITY While Zeiss “Jena” lenses are not as respected as Zeiss “Contax”, these 50mm Pancolar primes are actually very good and very highly regarded amongst the people who have tried them! This lens is usable even wide open and of course get’s better as you stop it down; by F2.8 it’s perfectly sharp! Some of the earlier Pancolar Zeb… Continue Reading
